The error could appear when you try to deploy a new application or you tried to run one of the interfaces published on your environment. The error could not be much descripted but in Event Viewer you can see the following entry:

Event Type: Warning

Event ID: 10536

Error Code: 0xC0002A1F, Cannot perform encryption or decryption because the secret is not available from the master secret server. See the event log for related errors.

This means that Master Secret is corrupted and you have to restore it to get your BizTalk environment running again. The steps to do it are the following:

  1. In a command prompt, goto C:\Program Files\Common Files\Enterprise Single Sign-On\
  2. Enter "ssoConfig -restoresecret SSOxxxx.bak", where SSOxxxx.bat file is the Secret Master backup file you created during BizTalk configuration. If you don’t remember the path and file name, go to the BizTalk Configuration console and check it on SSO section.
  3. Enter the password that was set on BizTalk installation (you can see the remember question you create during the installation).
